Alexander & Hornung Voluntarily Recalls Brookside Brand Fully Cooked Beef Wiener Product Due to Misbranding and Undeclared Milk Allergen

St. Clair Shores, MI. (Saturday, July 1, 2023) — Alexander & Hornung in cooperation with USDA, has voluntarily recalled 3204 pounds or approximately 1602 packages of Brookside Brand 32 oz Fully Cooked Natural Casing Beef Wieners. The product may actually contain smoked sausage, which contains milk, a known allergen which is not declared on the wiener product label.  

The fully cooked beef wiener items were produced 5/3/2023 and have a sell by date of 8/1/2023. The package [view label] bears the establishment number “EST 10125” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations throughout Ohio.

There have been no reports of adverse reaction or illness associated with this product.

“After receiving a customer inquiry, we conducted a comprehensive investigation and have isolated this to a packaging error during a limited period of production,” said Michael Fisher, Alexander & Hornung’s plant manager. “Out of an abundance of caution, we are recalling this item that was sold in the refrigerated meat case.”
